Strategic Management Papers at Tauranga (2018)

Strategic Management is concerned with maximising an organisation's competitive advantage. The Strategic Management approach is to take a top management view of the organisation which is deemed crucial in creating futures for the firm.

Strategic Management is available as a first major for the Bachelor of Business and Bachelor of Management Studies with Honours. Strategic Management may also be included as a second major or as a minor in other undergraduate degrees, subject to the approval of the Faculty in which the student is enrolled.

To complete Strategic Management as a single major for the BBus and BMS(Hons) students must gain 135 points from papers listed for Strategic Management, including 105 points above 100 level, and 60 points above 200 level. Students must complete STMGT101; one of ACCTN101, DIGIB101, ECONS101, FINAN101, LCOMM101, LCOMM102, MGSYS101 or MGSYS201, MRKTG101; STMGT201; STMGT202; STMGT203; STMGT301; STMGT302; and 30 points from STMGT303, STMGT304, STMGT305 or STMGT306. BBus students may count one of MNMGT495, MNMGT496 or MNMGT499 in place of 15 points from the 30 point option list.

To complete Strategic Management as part of a double major for the BBus(Hons) and BMS(Hons) or other undergraduate degree, students must gain 120 points from papers listed for Strategic Management, including 90 points above 100 level, and 45 points above 200 level. Students must complete STMGT101; or one of ACCTN101, ECONS101, FINAN101, MGSYS101 or MGSYS201, MRKTG101 if STMGT101 has already been included as part of another major; one of ACCTN101, DIGIB101, ECONS101, FINAN101, LCOMM101, LCOMM102, MGSYS101 or MGSYS201, MRKTG101; STMGT201; STMGT202; STMGT203; STMGT301; STMGT302; and 15 points from STMGT303, STMGT304, STMGT305 or STMGT206.

To complete a minor in Strategic Management, students must complete 60 points from the papers listed for the Strategic Management major, including at least 30 points above 100 level, and including STMGT101.

Note: Students who commenced a major in Strategic Management in 2016 or prior and are undertaking their third year in 2018 will do so using existing 20 point papers. Students are encouraged to contact the Waikato Management School for programme advice.
