Statics and dynamics of rigid bodies. Application of freebody diagrams and equations of equilibrium to calculate internal and external forces and moments on/in structures and mechanisms. Kinetics and kinematics of particles. Geometric properties of areas.

Prerequisite(s): (14 credits at Level 3 in NCEA Physics or PHYSC100 or B- grade in ENGEN100 or FOUND011) and (14 credits at Level 3 in NCEA Calculus or MATHS165 or a B- in CAFS011 or FOUND007)

Note: Students must gain a minimum of 40% on the final exam in order to receive a clear pass on this paper. Students who do not achieve this will receive a maximum grade of an RP.

The G-trimester version is for repeating students only. Students must have passed laboratory

activities (taught labs and project) in a B-trimester version of the paper to enrol.
