Sport Development and Coaching (2023)
The Sport Development and Coaching major is based on an innovative combination of pedagogical and sociological studies of sport and active recreation.
Sport Development and Coaching is available as a first major for the Bachelor of Health, Sport and Human Performance (BHSHP). Sport Development and Coaching may also be included as a second major or minor in other undergraduate degrees, subject to approval of the Division in which the student is enrolled.
To complete Sport Development and Coaching as a single major for the BHSHP, students must gain 135 points from papers listed for Sport Development and Coaching, including 105 points above 100 level, and 60 points above 200 level. Students must complete SDCOA101; 15 points from DANCE101, HMDEV100, MAORI102 or MAORI150; and SDCOA201, SDCOA202, SDCOA203, SDCOA301, SDCOA303, SDCOA304, and 15 points from SDCOA305 and SDCOA306.
To complete Sport Development and Coaching as part of a double major for the BHSHP or other undergraduate degree, students must gain 120 points from papers listed for Sport Development and Coaching, including 90 points above 100 level, and 45 points above 200 level. Students must complete SDCOA101; 15 points from DANCE101, HMDEV100, MAORI102 or MAORI150; and SDCOA201, SDCOA202, SDCOA203, and 45 points from SDCOA301, SDCOA303, SDCOA304, SDCOA305, and SDCOA306. Within these requirements students must include 30 points from SDCOA301, SDCOA303, and SDCOA304.
To complete a minor in Sport Development and Coaching, students must complete 60 points from the papers listed for the Sport Development and Coaching major, including at least 30 points above 100 level.

Prescriptions for the GradCert(SDC) and GradDip(SDC)
A Graduate Certificate and Graduate Diploma are available to graduates who have not included Sport Development and Coaching at an advanced level in their first degree. To complete the Graduate Diploma, students must take a total of 120 points including at least 75 points at 300 level or above in Sport Development and Coaching. Programmes of study are planned according to interests and prior academic background and experience, and intending candidates should therefore consult the Head of the School of Health.

Prescriptions for Sport Development and Coaching Major and Second Major from 2024
From 2024, new students enrolled in Sport Development and Coaching as a single major for the BHSHP, students must gain 135 points from papers listed for Sport Development and Coaching, including 105 points above 100 level, and 45 points above 200 level. Students must complete SDCOA101, SDCOA102; SDCOA201, SDCOA203, and 30 points from SDCOA202, HPSCI202, HPSCI206 or HTHPR202; and SDCOA301, SDCOA303, and SDCOA304.
