Creative Media (2022)

Creative Media focuses on creative arts knowledge and skills, and how they can be utilised and applied within communication roles. It develops creative knowledge skills by emphasising the power of clear, engaging, persuasive, and powerful storytelling, messaging and meaning making across a variety of settings. It will blend applications of text, image, sound in still, auditory, moving and interactive spaces. Creative Media includes papers in design thinking, professional and creative writing, the grammar of moving image, semiotics of sound, creative communication, audience reception and user patterns.

Creative Media is available as a first major for the Bachelor of Communication (BC). Creative Media may also be included as a second major or minor in other undergraduate degrees, subject to approval of the Division in which the student is enrolled.

To complete Creative Media as a single major for the BC, students must gain 135 points from papers listed for Creative Media, including 105 points above 100 level, and 60 points above 200 level. Students must complete ARTSC112, MEDIA100, DSIGN252 or LINGS204, COMMS201, MEDIA207, COMMS301, COMMS302, MEDIA305 or MEDIA307, and MEDIA310.

To complete Creative Media as part of a double major for the BC, or other undergraduate degree, students must gain 120 points from papers listed for Creative Media including 90 points above 100 level, and 45 points above 200 level. Students must complete ARTSC112, MEDIA100, DSIGN252 or LINGS204, COMMS201, MEDIA207, 30 points from COMMS301, COMMS302, MEDIA310, and MEDIA305 or MEDIA307.

To complete a minor in Creative Media, students must complete 60 points from the papers listed for the Creative Media major, including at least 30 points above 100 level.
