Industrial Relations and Human Resource Management (2020)

Industrial Relations and Human Resource Management (IR&HRM) is an interdisciplinary subject designed to prepare students for careers in the broad, ever-changing field of employment relations, human resource management, workplace change, and education and training. The subject also prepares students well for graduate studies. This is achieved by bringing together relevant papers from Education Studies, Human Resource Management, Labour Studies and Psychology.

IR&HRM is available as a first major for the Bachelor of Social Sciences (BSocSc). IR&HRM may also be taken as a second major or minor in other undergraduate degrees, subject to approval of the Division in which the student is enrolled.

To complete IR&HRM as a single major for the BSocSc, students must gain 135 points including STMGT101, EDSOC202, SOCPY200, HRMGT302, PSYCH317, SOCPY300, 15 points from HRMGT202 and HRMGT203, and 30 points from EDSOC302, HRMGT303, HRMGT304, SOCIO302 and LEGAL420.

To complete IR&HRM as part of a double major for the BSocSc or other undergraduate degree, students must gain 120 points including STMGT101, EDSOC202, SOCPY200, SOCPY300, 15 points from HRMGT306 and PSYCH317, 15 points from HRMGT202 and HRMGT203, and 30 points from EDSOC302, HRMGT303, HRMGT304, SOCIO302 and LEGAL420.

To complete a minor in IR&HRM, students must complete 60 points from the papers listed for the IR&HRM major, including 30 points from EDSOC202, HRMGT202 and HRMGT306.
