Industrial Relations and Human Resource Management (2018)
Industrial Relations and Human Resource Management (IR&HRM) is an interdisciplinary subject designed to prepare students for careers in the broad, ever-changing field of employment relations, human resource management, workplace change, and education and training. The subject also prepares students well for graduate studies. This is achieved by bringing together relevant papers from Education Studies, Human Resource Management, Labour Studies and Psychology.
IR&HRM is available as a major for the Bachelor of Social Sciences. IR&HRM may also be taken as a second major or as a minor, subject to academic approval of the Faculty in which the student is enrolled.
To complete IR&HRM as a single major, students must gain 135 points including WKEMP100, STMGT101, WKEMP201, EDSOC202, WKEMP300, HRMGT302, PSYCH317, 15 points from HRMGT202 and HRMGT203, and 15 points from EDSOC330, HRMGT303, HRMGT304, HRMGT305, WKEMP301, and LEGAL420.
To complete IR&HRM as part of a double major, students must gain 120 points including WKEMP100, STMGT101, WKEMP201, EDSOC202, WKEMP300, 15 points from HRMGT306 and PSYCH317, 15 points from HRMGT202 and HRMGT203, and 15 points from EDSOC330, HRMGT303, HRMGT304, HRMGT305, WKEMP301 and LEGAL420.
To complete a minor in IR&HRM, students must complete 60 points from the papers listed for the IR&HRM major, including 15 points from HRMGT202 and HRMGT306, and 15 points from WKEMP201, WKEMP300 and EDSOC202.

Note: Students who commenced a major in Industrial Relations and Human Resource Management in 2016 or prior and are undertaking their third year in 2018 will do so using existing 20 point papers. Students are encouraged to contact the Faculty of Arts and Social Science for programme advice.
Candidates must gain at least 60 points at 100 level in any subject(s) before enrolling in Industrial Relations and Human Resource Management papers above 100 level, and at least 90 points at 100 and 200 level before enrolling in Industrial Relations and Human Resource Management papers above 200 level.

Prescriptions for the GradCert(IR&HRM) and GradDip(IR&HRM)
A Graduate Certificate and Graduate Diploma are available to graduates who have not included Industrial Relations and Human Resource Management at an advanced level in their first degree. Each programme of study for the Graduate Certificate must include WKEMP201 and HRMG342. Each programme of study for the Graduate Diploma must include WKEMP201, EDSOC202, HRMG342 and WKEMP300.

Students who major in IR&HRM and who have adequate grades may undertake interdisciplinary graduate programmes in the broad area of IR&HRM by enrolling in a PGCert(LabSt), PGDip(LabSt), or BSocSc(Hons) or MSocSc in Labour Studies and completing a IR&HRM specialisation.

To complete the IR&HRM specialisation within the PGCert(LabSt), PGDip(LabSt) or BSSocSc(Hons), students must complete 120 points at 500 level comprising SOCPY531, SOCPY532 and SOCPY591, 30 points from HRMGT543, HRMGT544, HRMGT545 or HRMGT574 and 30 points from LBST541, LBST542, ADLNG500, PSYCH571, PSYCH572, PSYCH573, PSYCH579 and PSYCH585.
To complete the IR&HRM specialisation within the MSocSc in Labour Studies, students must complete 180 points at 500 level comprising SOCPY531, SOCPY532, SOCPY592, SSRP503, SSRP504, 30 points from HRMGT543, HRMGT544, HRMGT545 or HRMGT574 and 30 points from LBST541, LBST542, ADLNG500, PSYCH571, PSYCH572, PSYCH573, PSYCH579 and PSYCH585.
Students wishing to specialise in IR&HRM at graduate level may enrol in the IR&HRM specialisation within the PGCert(LabSt), PGDip(LabSt) or BSocSc(Hons) in Labour Studies. The requirements for the specialisation are prescribed in the FASS Graduate Handbook or may be obtained from the Programme Convenor for IR&HRM.
