This paper introduces a number of the professional obligations and responsibilities of educators. These include examining the Treaty of Waitangi and designing practices to best meet the needs of Maori learners; engaging pedagogy and information and communication technologies to create responsive and interactive learning environments; and investigating strategies that align teaching practices with current literacy concepts.
